Tonight:
Deschutes Black Butte Porter
5.2% ABV, 30 IBU
The Black Butte Porter is a delicious beer. The lower ABV and more typical porter flavor profile make it a much more approachable beer than the previous two nights' selections. It's also a versatile beer. You could drink it with dinner, pair it with dessert, or enjoy it on it's own. This beer won't be offended if you don't give it your full attention -- so feel free to sip it casually while watching TV. But if you're looking for something a bit more serious, don't be too quick to put the Black Butte in the friendzone. It's never going to pack the punch of a bourbon barrel aged stout, but it has enough flavor to hold its own.
Here's my other recommendation for the Black Butte Porter: if you're trying to teach someone else about beer or expose them to additional styles, share this beer with them. It's true-to-style and delicious, without requiring a PhD in beer to appreciate it.
